Appointment of Chief Clerk/Chief Executive Officer

Statement from the President of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal,  Alison Kellett with respect to the appointment of the new Chief Clerk/Chief Executive Officer.

The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal is delighted to announce the appointment of Deborah Baljit as its new Chief Clerk and Chief Executive Officer of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Administration Limited. Deborah takes up her position on 3 July 2023.

Deborah joined the Tribunal in January 2019 as a Deputy Clerk. Prior to this, Deborah was called to the Bar in 1999 and held a criminal practice before transitioning into the field of professional regulation as an in-house lawyer within healthcare and financial settings.

Deborah will spearhead the Tribunal’s future development and lead it into its next chapter, including delivering on the Tribunal’s vision to remain a key player in the enforcement sector for legal services, along with overseeing a move to new premises later in the year and the launch of the Tribunal’s new website.

The Board, staff and all members wish Deborah the very best for this new role and congratulate her on the appointment.

Deborah says:

“I have been incredibly proud to serve as a Deputy Clerk to the Tribunal since January 2019. It is an honour and a privilege to now lead the Tribunal into a new era alongside the dedicated and skilled staffing team. I take on the role of Chief Clerk/CEO with confidence that the Tribunal will re-enforce its independence and objectivity in continuing to protect both the public and the reputation of the profession in equal measure.”
