Retirement of Colin Chesterton, Solicitor Member and Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Administration Director

On 6 July 2021 Colin Chesterton retired from the Tribunal. Colin was a Solicitor Member of the SDT for twenty-seven years having been appointed by the Master of the Rolls in 1994.

In July 2018 Colin was appointed a Director of the SDTAL and Policy Committee member until 3 July 2021. In his role as a Director Colin utilised his previous experience gained at partnership level and from his involvement in charitable incorporated organisations over the years, to the benefit of the SDT.

As a Solicitor Member of so many years standing Colin had significant knowledge and experience. Over the years he sat on many high-profile and/or complex matters. Whatever the case he was considering Colin always endeavoured to put the parties at ease and to ensure that all concerned not only received a fair hearing but felt that they had received a fair hearing. In his interactions with Members and staff alike Colin demonstrated a good sense of humour. Colin will be missed by his fellow Members and staff alike. We all wish Colin a happy retirement from the Tribunal.

Edward Nally commented, “Colin’s service and commitment to the Tribunal speaks for itself. He has been a pleasure to work alongside as a colleague and friend. His recent service on the Board and Policy Committee has been invaluable too. Always well prepared, insightful and confident in his work, which is reflected in the many important cases upon which he has sat, and indeed chaired on occasions.”
