Appointment of Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Administration Ltd Director (Lay)

Rob Slack was appointed as Lay Director of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Administration Ltd on 25 October 2021 following the resignation of the previous Lay Director, Martin Hallam.  Rob will serve as a Director of the SDTAL and a member of the SDT Policy Committee for a term of up to three years.

Rob is a retired Consultant ENT surgeon and has been a member of the SDT since 2009, having previously served as a member of the General Medical Council for 10 years. Rob has also served on the Bar Standards Board Qualifications committee. These roles and others have given him considerable exposure to various aspects of Professional Regulation.

Edward Nally, President of the Tribunal congratulated Rob on his appointment and said:  “Congratulations to Rob and our thanks to him for standing for this important position. I know he will bring considerable experience and enthusiasm to the role.  I look forward to working with Rob and the rest of the Board and Policy Committee in taking our Tribunal forward at such a key time for us and for society as a whole”.

Rob said, on hearing of his election: “’I look forward to being able to contribute in a constructive way to the continued development of what is already in my view an excellent Tribunal; the new ways of working with remote hearings have been an excellent teaching and research exercise in how we might develop further in the future by way of making our work more efficient and ‘user friendly’ for all parties – I have always been keen to adopt new technologies that help working environments, and this is clearly an opportunity to take on board and further develop what we have found to be useful.”
